Dr. William J. Binder, First to Devise and Pioneer Breakthrough BOTOX for Migraine Treatment, Applauds U.K. Drug Agency Approval

Prominent Beverly Hills plastic surgeon says BOTOX injections can prevent the onset of migraine for months even for the millions who are not helped by existing medications.

The news on Friday that the United Kingdom had become the first country to officially approve the use of BOTOX injections for preventing migraine headaches came as little surprise to Beverly Hills facial plastic surgeon Dr. William Binder. A pioneer in the cosmetic and therapeutic use of the BOTOX neurotoxin since the 1980s, Dr. Binder made headlines in the early 1990s for discovering that BOTOX was effective in relieving the pain and preventing the onset of debilitating migraine headaches. After these breakthrough findings, he went on to develop an injection protocol that is the basis of the current Botox for migraine treatment for relieving and preventing migraine headaches.

Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Binder has continued to successfully treat many migraine patients with BOTOX. Experts predict the U.K. approval could hasten a decision on the BOTOX for migraine treatment from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. There are an estimated 36 million migraine patients in the US. For those patients reporting no symptom relief from medications, the Botox for migraine treatment may be their only hope.

The current pain medications available are often ineffective for many patients, and they offer no hope for preventing headache episodes. When administered properly, this BOTOX treatment offers long-acting, well-tolerated, preventative therapy," Dr. Binder explains.

Dr. Binder says injection location and dosing are critical to achieving an effective, long-lasting result without undesirable side effects. The BOTOX for migraine treatment takes about twenty minutes and it can provide relief of pain and related symptoms (nausea, vomiting, photophobia,) for up to three or more months.
